RE: More expensive, why?

Thanks to all who answered!
I had no intention of starting a dispute between fivers and TTs.
As far as the three season capability is concerned.
Any trailer that we buy will be used during sno-bird season in central Florida.
We do not need a high end unit.
A Keystone or Sunnybrook will do us just fine.
Thanks again.

RE: More expensive, why?

The reason that I asked.
We are comtemplating going to Florida this fall to buy a trailer to place on our leased lot.
This unit would not move as long as we owned it and continue to lease the lot.
Seems to me that when considering similar models from the same manufacturer, the TT is much less expensive.
As towability is not a factor, seeems to me the way to go.

RE: More expensive, why?

Here's a page with comparisons for two Jaycos, one TT and the other a fiver with basically the same floor plan. You'll notice the increased weight and carrying capacity of the fiver. That would seem to require stronger components. Too bad they don't specify axle ratings, brake sizes, etc.
Jayco Comparisons
Thank you.

RE: More expensive, why?

Swiss steak to T-bone steak. There is a whole lot more into a 5 er than a TT even if the floor plans look alike. Heavier fame, axles, tires, more/better grade material, larger holding tanks, ect, ect
How's about we compare apples to apples here folks. The Prowler 5th wheels have all the same amenities as their TT counterparts. Only mentioned differences are power jacks in the front which are not needed on a TT and a ceiling fan. I'd like to see proof of a stronger frame, better axles, tires, materials ect. Last I checked many run the same axles, rims, tires and are built with the same materials as any comparable TT. In some instances depending on the 5er you may have larger tanks, but then now you also have a heavier trailer.
My point exactly.
The cabinets and appliances are the same.
The skin and floor coverings are the same
Windows and air conditioners.
I have a problem seeing twenty five percent or more in a little plumbing and a couple of power jacks.
I think that Kaj has it right.
Because they can.

RE: Chena Marina RV Park Closing, RV traffic way off

Finaly a couple of posts stating what everyone knows! Instread of the constant pie in the sky posts about crowded CGs and endless strings of RVs on the highways.
We traveled to America twice this summer and the CGs that we stayed in were far from full.

More expensive, why?

Howcome a fiver is much more expensive than a similar TT?
I can see a few bucks extra in the frame, but, ten or twelve thousand for the same grade by the same manufacturer?

RE: We've Been Robbed!

My problem is, the post by the OP is the first and only time we have heard from her.
As the trailer in question is a 2008, we can assume that the OP had only had it a short time.
Now, as an RVer and Rv owner, would you place a "new" Rv in storage only three miles from home and not visit the trailer at least once in six weeks?
Why would the Canadian woman, after supposedly getting the vin mumber from the dealer, so she was OK to register, call the OP and say, by the way, I seem to have bought your trailer from a thief!
I am going to drop twenty Grand US but thats OK, we all make mistakes!
Ya think?

RE: Down 27% now and still falling.

I would think that housing is quite pertinant to RVing.
It seems that many RVers raid the equity in their home to finance their Rv.
So why would not housing prices and RVing go hand in hand?

RE: We've Been Robbed!

Why do people keep mentioning the Canadian woman?
We do not even know if a Canadian woman exists.
Go back to the original post. She's got the trailer now. And it appears it may have changed hands once before she got it.

RE: Travelers Checks

I have cashed American Express travelers checks all over north America for forty years, as recently as a couple of weeks ago in Ohio(KOA) Cedar Point.
Have never had a problem.
You must make sure that the checks are issued in American funds.

RE: We've Been Robbed!

The Canadian woman's story sure does have a lot of holes, which makes me wonder why she is so willing to loose $20g by giving up the trailer.
Why do people keep mentioning the Canadian woman?
We do not even know if a Canadian woman exists.
As someone said, if the Canadian woman has enough paper to get the trailer into Canada, why would she vomunteer to give up twenty thou to someone that she does not know?
Would you?

RE: We've Been Robbed!

I'm not sure whether the Canadian woman's story is real or not. It does seem odd. Then again, people get taken all the time. Thats why scammers continue to stay in buisness. What is odd that she's in Canada. Why would the thief take it all the way up there when he could have easily sold it in the US?
What really stinks is that the OP has a lot of garbage to go through to get this straightened out. I would most certainly lean on the insurance company. What they claim as "reasonable" towing distance is bunk. If they feel that returning the unit to you is recovery, then make them tow it home. If not, make them pay for the loss.
Two points.
It is not the Canadian womans" story.
The trailer was supposedly sold in Tennessee, not in Canada.
How did the "Canadian woman" get the trailer into Canada?
You do not just show up at the border with an American trailer and cross with no questions asked.

RE: We've Been Robbed!

I still do not believe the story!
Too many loose ends.
Did the mysterious "Canadian Woman" have cash?
Why?
Did the mysterious "seller" wait a week or two for a personal check to clear?
Why did the Canadian woman have a RV hauler and no Rv with her?
Great story, should be filed under fiction!

RE: We've Been Robbed!

So, this Canadian woman just happened to be in a Walmart parking lot seven or eight hundred miles from home with twenty grand in her possession.
Lucky for her, she also had a pickup complete with fifth wheel that was adaquate to pull her new fiver, which this guy she had never seen before generously offered to sell her at a large discount.
How lucky can you be?
This story has more holes than ten pounds of swiss cheese!

RE: Best options for 85-90 Class C, EFI/carb, gas/diesel, etc.

I would go new enough to have EFI.and overdrive.
I also would go with the larger engine if you intend to tow.
Do not get hung up on low milage.
If everything else is good, I would not worry about a hundred thousand miles.
Other opinions are sure to vary.

RE: Leave her in Florida?

I know two people who have left their Titanium Fifth wheelers in Florida.
One, my friend has his in Bradington, I know for sure that he got insurance from Progressive.
There is a slight controversy with Progressive, they do not like to see a trailer tied down. there is some discussion as to what constitutes"tied down".

ABS problem fixed.

I was having problems with the ABS, /93 Ford E350/.
It was acting weird, felt like a bag of marbles under my foot.
Anyway, my Ford mechanic knew right away, there is a gizmo sits on top of the differential, it had gone nuts, twenty eight fifty Can and ten minutes to change.
Problem solved!
